Leading the transformation, Mallorca Sustainable Summit 2022, which will take place on April 7 and 8 at Mallorca, at the Palacio de Congresos de Palma.

The hackathon is a meeting aimed at professionals, researchers and students with interest and commitment to sustainability, who want to test their talent by providing solutions to various tourism issues at Mallorca. Thus, during one day, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and in groups, they will work on creating solutions to problems related to the tourism and sustainability sectors.

Three major challenges: water, food and mobility

Participants will aim to create, develop and document a solution to these challenges:

Water Challenge: To create solutions for water use and management, as well as the control of losses and flows in the water cycle, both for drinking water, reclaimed water and wastewater. Effective control of water is necessary given its great limitation on the island and its environmental impact.

Food Challenge: Create solutions, from technological to cooperative clusters, together with appropriate public policies, to promote the adaptation of the agricultural and livestock sector, as well as the traditional professions linked to the countryside, to the current market, especially related to the tourist environment.

Mobility Challenge: To create solutions to facilitate and optimise internal, island-continent and inter-island mobility by any means of transport, seeking maximum sustainability with minimum impact, thanks to the optimisation of resources.

The working groups will be constituted on the day of the event among the participants present and must consist of five people. The organising committee of the competition will be responsible for the composition of the teams. The prize money is a total of €15,000, €5,000 of which will be allocated to the winning team of each challenge, to be divided equally among the team members.

Individual registrations must be made through the electronic registry of the Fundació Mallorca Turisme: https://fundaciomallorcaturisme.sedelectronica.es/info.0.

The SDS Hackaton is an opportunity to meet other professionals through networking and to work on a project by sharing the project process and taking advantage of new digital tools and technologies. During the exercise, collaborations will be encouraged and ideas will be promoted through the advice of mentors specialised in the subject, who will be available at all times to guide the teams to achieve maximum results, ensuring the prevalence of a cooperative, innovative and creative spirit.
