The Tourism Department of Consell de Mallorca, headed by its Minister, José Marcial Rodríguez Díaz, continued this Monday the round of contacts with technology companies that began last April, with the aim of promoting the island as a smart tourism destination.

In this vein, Rodríguez brought together representatives of the main local, national, and international technology companies at La Misericordia to present the Smart, Comprehensive, and Interoperable Platform for the Tourist Destination of Mallorca: MallorcaPID, a project that will improve tourism management on the island and provide firsthand knowledge of their experience in technological solutions applied to tourism, which could be applied in the future on Mallorca.

The meeting brought together more than 45 people, both in person and online, and comes months after the Consell de Mallorca secured €4.88 million in funding from the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, through the State Company for the Management of Tourism Innovation and Technologies (SEGITTUR), for the deployment of technological platforms and digital solutions within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.

Attendees, both in person and online, included representatives from employers' associations and companies in the sector, such as gsBIT, ClusterTEIB, Fundació BIT, Telefónica, Vodafone, InAtlas, Innovasur, Todoesdata, and Trifork, among others.

The ultimate goal of this round of meetings is to seek solutions that will allow for the creation of a comprehensive Smart Destination Platform (PID in Spanish) capable of bringing together all the tourism information available in the Consell de Mallorca to facilitate and promote better tourism management on the island. This platform will enable better tourism planning and management through the integration and analysis of data from different sources. According to the Regional Minister of Tourism, José Marcial Rodríguez Díaz, "This is a very important project for Mallorca, which will also allow us to evaluate the impact of tourism events, improve digital interaction between public administrations, visitors, and residents, and develop intelligence tools that improve our understanding of tourism."
