Precompetitive collaboration is key to the success of sustainability strategies in tourism and plays a crucial role for destinations. A good understanding of the challenges and needs of the industry makes it possible to address and manage the key issues of sustainable development from evidence while avoiding influencing competition between companies.

"Recommendations for the tourism sector, immersed in a full transformation to become more sustainable: there are no perfect measures.

Transparency is key".

Summary

An interesting debate not only explaining what they do individually to make tourism more sustainable, but also what they can and do jointly and what they can contribute to other smaller but important entities in the sector to address an issue of global interest.

Use of collected data to improve the tourism industry:

- The data allows us to know the carbon footprint of the products necessary for the proper functioning of the hotels. There are public data already collected that show that there are already practices in place and being implemented to make tourism more sustainable.

-Calls to action requested by the sector:

  • To have funding, align the objectives of the destinations and put them in tune with the local community.

  • To have a joint vision and roadmap with all the agents involved, since to ask to incorporate something when the decision has already been made is to force them to do so without having given them a prior voice.
